Leverkusen, Germany - A new easy chair by designer Gaetano Pesce - an eye-catching exhibit at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2007 in Milan - uses a unique 'shadow' moulding technique that has given the seat its name. Not for Pesce the restrictions of making the seat shape in a conventional fixed mould. Instead, the chair's textile covering is filled directly with liquid polyurethane and the individual shape is formed by sitting a life-size doll in it, says Bayer MaterialScience, whose Bayfit systems are used for the design. The flexible foam encases the shape, forming a unique 'shadow' for each chair. Different colours and fabrics are possible, as is a Mini Shadow for children, said a BMS statement on the design.Back in the 1960s, Pesce designed the well-known 'Il Piede' seat in the shape of a human foot.
