Redwood City, California – Sportswear manufacturer Adidas and 3D printing specialist Carbon are producing TPU 3D-printed face shields for US healthcare workers. The two companies have an existing collaboration for high-performance footwear.
Adidas and Carbon collaborate on 3D printed face shields
They are using the same TPU material they co-created for the Adidas 4D midsoles. The aim was to create a piece of personal protective equipment that could be sanitised and reused, maximising availability and minimising waste.
Production has been scaled up from an initial 18,000 face shields a week to more than 50,000. Carbon is also sharing print files with its whole network, so anyone with access to a Carbon printer and TPU material will be able to create face shields for their own local areas.
