Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania-Air Products has signed a definitive agreement to sell its amines business to Taminco. The deal, part of a plan to sell the group's amines and polymers businesses, does not affect the Lehigh Valley-headquartered company's polyurethanes chemicals or PU prepolymers businesses, company officials earlier told Urethanes Technology.
Taminco is one of the world's largest producers of methylamines and methylamine derivatives, said an Air Products statement, adding that the sale is part of its "ongoing portfolio management … to make the company a more focused, less cyclical and higher growth company.
As part of this regrouping, Air Products also announced 24 Aug that from 1 Oct John McGlade, currently group vice president, Chemicals, has been named president and chief operating officer.
John Jones, chairman and ceo, who was previously also president, said, "Throughout his career, John has steered key strategic transformations such as establishing early partnerships in Asia and building our hydrogen franchises that have become a leadership position for the company. He has recently led our restructuring efforts in the Chemicals Group."
Air Products is also reorganising its operations into four divisions
* Energy, Process Industries and Equipment;
* Merchant Gases;
* Electronics and Performance Materials; and
Scott Sherman will continue leading Energy, Process Industries and Equipment as vice president and general manager. Robert Dixon, currently president, Air Products Asia, will assume responsibility for global Merchant Gases and is appointed vice president and general manager, Merchant Gases. Michael Hilton, currently, vice president, Electronics Businesses, is appointed vice president and general manager, Electronics and Performance Materials-a division which includes the polyurethane-related units. John Marsland will expand his current role and assume global responsibilities for Healthcare as vice president and general manager.
