Krefeld, Germany — Alberdingk Boley has unveiled a new polymeric polyol for light-stable VOC-free 2 pack coatings.
The material is called Albodur 1055. It features better UV stability than other decorative 2 pack systems when formulated with aliphatic diisocyanates, the company said.
Renewable vegetable oil is used to make the polyol, it said. The material can produce coatings with light stability greater than 1000 hours QUV B exposure.
In addition, it is hydrophobic. The polyol is very pale in colour, on its own or mixed with a diisocyanate, the company added.
Finally, because the material has a polymeric nature, it is possible to reduce the amount of isocyanate needed in the system without compromising workability, or the mechanical properties of finished coatings.
