Freudenberg, Germany – Albrecht Baumer has introduced a continuous, automatic grinding system for its band knives which does not interrupt production and allows inexperienced operators to obtain good grinding results.
The company says that there is an increasing need for accurate foam cutting across the polyurethane industry. Moreover, cutting blades need to be perfectly sharpened. But the grinding process is often a manual procedure which interrupts the workflow.
In addition, operators may not choose the correct grinding settings. A badly ground knife can overheat, lose its edge and possibly break, said the firm.
The company's new system automatically sharpens the blades in use. Furthermore, replacements can be planned because the state of the blade is known to the machine.
The new system comes with three grinding pre-sets. These are:
- Pre-grinding: used after a blade change;
- Normal grinding: continuous for harder high density or PU re-bond foam; and finally,
- Polishing, to keep the tip of the blade sharp for narrow-tolerance cutting.
In addition to these, clients can have their own grinding parameters programmed into the system.
The automatic writing unit is available for Albrecht Baumer on the following polyurethane foam cutting machines: Split-HE 500; BSR-1; B SV-1; BSP-S-with BSR-1 cutting units; BSV-E; BSP-EC; BSV-R — with BSR 1 cutting units; SMW-3; SMW-5; and, SMW-7.
