Milan – Alcantara aims to increase the use of recycled post-consumer polymers in its textiles for the automotive, consumer electronics and fashion sectors. Alcantara cloth is made from a combination of polyester and polyurethane.
According to the company’s chairman and CEO Andrea Boragno, the company is introducing new material that includes greater proportions of recycled polymers. Fully recycled material may follow in three to five years, he said.
The new material is certified to be 68% from post-consumer recycled polyester. It is covered by the Recycled Claim Standard.
Alcantara has been certified as carbon neutral since 2009.
