Mumbai – The board of directors of BASF India has approved the appointment of Alexander Gerding as managing director of BASF India, effective January 1, 2023.
Gerding will lead the company for a tenure of five years, and will be based in Mumbai. He succeeds the present managing d of BASF India Limited, Narayan Krishnamohan, who has decided to leave the company.
As head of BASF Group’s companies in the country, and as managing director of BASF India, he will focus on expanding the business, and supporting BASF’s customers and partners in the country.
India is a key growing market for BASF, with the company’s India operations registering sales of approximately €2.3 billion in 2021.
Gerding, who joined the company in 2000, has handled multiple leadership roles across the globe including Argentina, US, and – most recently – he has served VP business management for BASF’s agricultural solutions business unit for EMEA, based in Germany
BASF has 2,311 employees in India, with eight production sites and 39 offices throughout the country. The Innovation Campus in Mumbai and the Coatings Technical Centre in Mangalore are both part of BASF’s global technology platform.
