Rhode Island, US – Alfa International has introduced a new high-performance two-part polyurethane encapsulant. It was formulated by the US Navy, and the company said it has good hydrolytic stability and acoustic properties.
The new product, Alfa NUWC XP-1, is fully cured in less than 24 hours at room temperature, and also at elevated temperatures. It adheres to a range of substrates, and is designed to protect acoustic equipment, hydrophones and underwater transducers.
The product exhibits acoustic impedance at 10kHz of 1.60 x 106MRayls and 1.63 x 106MRayls at 20°C. Water absorption after 14 days at 55°C is +2.0% and ultimate elongation per ASTM-D-624 is 900%.
It is available in several package sizes up to 55-gallon drums. The product is optically clear, but can also be supplied in black.
