Wesel, Germany -- The polyurethane casting resins business of ABB Micafil, a subsidiary of ABB Schweiz, has been acquired by speciality chemical company Altana AG.
The newly acquired business, which operates under the brand names of Micares and Resodip, will be incorporated into Altana's Elantas Electrical Insulation division, a 4 June Altana statement said, adding that the PU resins will be manufactured at Elantas sites in Collecchio, Italy and Hamburg, Germany.
"Following the acquisitions of Quadrant Chemicals (US) and Shimo Resins (India) in 2009, the present acquisition is a further consistent step to enhance this business area," said Wolfgang Schütt, president of Altana's Elantas division. "At the same time we strengthen the sites of Elantas in Italy and Germany," he added.
PU casting resins are used in a range of electrical engineering applications for the automotive industry, amogst others. (RD)
