Bridgeport, Michigan - Amigo Mobility, a leading manufacturer of mobility products, is to use Amerityre Corp.'s Flatfree polyurethane tyres as original equipment on the Amigo Mobility SmartShopper.
The companies estimate that Amerityre will initially supply Amigo Mobility with about 25 000 tyres per year.
"We are very happy to be working with Amerityre," said Amigo Mobility president and founder Al Thieme. "Amerityre shares our business ideals - they are environmentally friendly and believe in producing high quality goods that are made in America."
Thieme went on to explain that, "Amerityre's Flatfree tyres, currently used on our Amigo SmartShoppers, have demonstrated stellar performance under daily heavy-duty use in retail environments.
The foam tyres "provide a smoother, more comfortable ride and reduce the overall weight of the Amigo by four pounds," added Thieme.
Thieme built his first Amigo, a battery operated "vehicle," in 1968, for a family member with limited mobility due to multiple sclerosis. The Amigo gained popularity and Amigo has now expanded from Thieme's garage to its current headquarters, occupying nearly 34 000 sq.ft (3160 sq.m) in Bridgeport, Michigan.
