Sequigny, France – Arkema is to expand its production of Pebax polyurethane elastomers by 25%. The company did not give any investment or volume figures.
Although the expansion is in France, the company’s SVP for high performance polymers, Erwoan Pezron, said that the materials would continue to be produced at plant in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania.
The new plant will lower water consumption at Sequiny by 25% when it comes on stream in 2023. Arkema said the materials' carbon footprint could be 25% smaller than other competitive materials.
The polyurethanes are widely used in products such as sporting shoe soles, ski boots and flexible screens.
