Nantong, China -- Asahi Kasei has opened 10kT/year HDI (hexamethylene diisocyanate) plant in Nantong, China - taking total capacity for the material to 20kT/year at the site. The firm has a further 10kT/year at its plant in Hyuga, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan.
In a press release, Asahi Kasei said the Nantong plant started construction in 2013 and the location was chosen to help the company "build a stable supply system in Asia."
Asahi Kasei added that it plans further expansions for its Duranate HDI and also a range of polycarbonate diols.
Duranate is used in automotive paint raw materials
