Vienna – MATR is supplying its eco-friendly mattresses to Vienna’s Boutique Hotel Stadthalle, which prides itself on its sustainability credentials. The mattresses are made using Neveon foam.
Start-up business MATR is backed by Neveon’s parent company Greiner’s Innoventures programme. Its mattresses are made using Neveon’s foam.hybrid eNdura sustainable engineered foam. This, they said, gives good comfort and durability, and importantly has a very low carbon footprint, with about 70% lower emissions released during its production than conventional foam mattress cores with a comparable lifespan. It is also made using 30% renewable materials, mass balanced according to RedCert2 standards.
Neveon uses an adhesive-free connecting system for foam materials with different densities. This “design for recycling” approach allows a modular, recyclable mattress to be created. MATR also operates a take-back system to ensure the mattresses are recycled at end-of-life.
“At MATR, we make sustainable solutions practical and attractive for hotels,” said CEO Verena Judmayer. “This partnership is an important step in showing how mattresses can support hotels in the transition to a circular economy, supporting them to be viable in light of incoming EU regulations such as the EU Circular Action Plan.”
The hotel has been aligning itself with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals since 2020, many of which have already been fulfilled. “Sustainability has always been at the core of everything we do,” its owner, Michaela Reitterer, said. “Partnering with MATR and Neveon allows us to incorporate this philosophy into our guests’ sleep experience, combining comfort with sustainability.”
