Shanghai, China – Avient is now manufacturing its Neu Custom Capabilities and NeuSoft TPU for catheter applications in China. It announced the capacity expansion at the recent Medtec China exhibition.
The Suzhou facility is now manufacturing the ultra-soft TPUs for short-term in vivo applications that meet ISO 10993 and USP Class VI biocompatibility requirements. These low durometer materials are available in custom colours, and have good UV stability and properties. They also have good elasticity, resistance to abrasions and tears, barrier properties and melt strength.
Materials customised with additives such as radio-opacifiers are possible. They can also be overmoulded on substrates such as TPU and nylon to create complex multi-material medical devices, and are compatible with extrusion and injection moulding. Applications include cardiovascular and intravenous catheters.
“By bringing Neu Custom Capabilities and NeuSoft TPU production to China, we’re reaffirming our commitment to serving the growing medical materials demands from our healthcare and medical device customers in China and the Asia-Pacific region,” said Matt Mitchell, Avient’s global marketing director for specialty engineered materials. “This development not only helps us to improve our response time but allows us to work more closely with our customers, providing customised solutions that meet their specific needs.”
The company manufactures its medical grade products at sites certified under good manufacturing practice (GMP) or ISO 12485-2016 conditions to meet regulatory requirements. In addition, the Singapore site where its Mevopur formulations are made recently achieved ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation for in vitro cytotoxicity tests for the biological evaluation of medical devices.
