Shanghai – Avient has expanded its Cesa Withstand portfolio of antimicrobial and antifungal additives. The new grades are designed for thermoplastic polyurethane film laminated products and devices for applications where microbial protection is important.
The company says the new additives include both organic and inorganic ingredients to inhibit the growth of bacteria, mould and fungi on the surface of the plastic. The antibacterial and antifungal activities have both been assessed via extensive testing. They are being made in Asia, and are available worldwide.
TPU film is commonly used in waterproofing and as an adhesive in a range of sectors, including medical, outdoor, marine, aviation and industrial applications. Testing has shown that, for example, the new additives can meet the specific antibacterial and anti-mould protection requirements for products such as hospital beds, transparent tent components and ice bags.
“There is a strong global trend and awareness for enhanced well-being, comfort, and safety in the post-pandemic era,” said Bob Lee, Avient’s general manager for colour and additives in Greater China. “Our new grades of Cesa Withstand antimicrobial additives can help limit microbial growth, which can lead to odour, staining, discoloration, or loss of mechanical properties in these applications.”
