Sempach, Switzerland -- B.Braun Medical is launching its 3-in-1 foam dressing with a soft silicone adhesive, Askina DresSil, at booth 1350 of 20th Congress of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA) in Geneva, Switzerland 26-28 May 2010. The new dressing extends the range of its previous development, a polyurethane foam dressing with a soft silicone wound-contact layer, found in its Askina SilNet product.
B.Braun is both an exhibitor at and sponsor of the EWMA event, which is "dedicated to finding solutions to the woundcare puzzle," according to the company's 10 May statement.
Phillippe Regnier, B.Braun's international marketing director, commented, "Silicone technology (Askina DresSil) provides a new standard of a traumatic woundcare treatment, whilst for infected wounds, the patented ionic silver alginate matrices (Askina Calgitrol Ag) provide a broad antimicrobial effectiveness and help to prevent contamination from external bacteria".
B. Braun is also sponsoring a symposium on woundcare solutions for problem wounds at the Geneva Palexpo on 27 May 2010 (Room B at 3:15pm), chaired by Keith Harding (University of Cardiff, UK), along with of leaders in woundcare management including Gerit Mulder (University of California) and Wassim Raffoul (University of Lausanne,S witzerland).
B.Braun's range of Askina Foam dressings are two-layered and non-adherent consisting of:
•A soft hydrophilic polyurethane layer which is breathable and has a high absorption capacity
•A thin, transparent protective polyurethane film, which is water impermeable and bacteria resistant
Absorption is driven by capillary forces, with excess moisture escaping through the outer layer, the company said.
