Suzhou, Jiangsu – BASF and China’s Greentech Material are setting up a joint laboratory to develop polyurethane leather.
BASF and China’s Greentech to set up PU leather lab

‘We approached BASF... we wanted to tap into their expertise in developing sustainable synthetic leather without organotin or solvent-based technologies,’ said Greentech chairman Gao Jingang. The companies have worked together since 2014.
It will be housed in Greentech’s HQ and research centre at its base in Suzhou, Jiangsu province. The new lab will focus on production efficiency and sustainability. It will also develop prototypes.
Greentech already has a separate lab to test automotive materials. The company has capacity to make 4.8m m2/year PU leather.
BASF will bring its technical know-how, product development and production expertise to the partnership. Greentech plans to focus on applications sectors including automotive, fast moving consumer goods and furniture.
