Florham Park, New Jersey-BASF Corp. announced 12 Feb that it was declaring force majeure for toluene diisocyanate (TDI) products in North America immediately.
The company said this force majeure was necessary "because of a mechanical failure in its Geismar, Lousiana, TDI plant.
BASF expects to be unable to manufacture TDI at Geismar for at least 30 days. "BASF is working diligently to correct the problem and restore full production of the TDI unit as quickly as possible," said Ken Lane, director of Urethane Chemicals, in the BASF announcement. "
