Ludwigshafen, Germany - The force majeure on butanediol (BDO) at BASF's plant in Ludwigshafen is expected to continue until the end of September.
The force majeure was declared after a 30 May fire destroyed the chemical company's acetylene production facility. Acetylene is used as a raw material for BDO, which is used in the production of polyurethane, spandex and fibres.
A spokesperson for BASF told UTI, 16 Aug, that the company needed to revamp the plant fully before production and supply returned to normal.
