Ludwigshafen, Germany -- BASF has launched its inaugural international car seat design competition, open to anyone interested in automotive design and seating comfort who develops a concept using BASF materials.
The competition's six-member jury is made up of three renowned industrial and automotive designers: Konstantin Grcic, Ken Kiyoyuki Okuyama and Dave Lyon, as well as BASF representatives from different regions, the chemical giant said in a 18 Oct news release.
The competition - called 'sit down. move.' - is being organised by BASF's global seat competence team together with designfabrik, which BASF says houses the lion's share of its material competence resources of interest for designers. These include thermoplastic polyurethanes such as Elastollan, foams based on aromatic polyurethane (Elastoflex) and other materials such as expanded polypropylene, engineering plastics and binders for natural fibres.
The deadline for submission is 30 Jan 2013. The three winners and their design concepts will be presented at the Design Night of the Geneva International Motor Show in March 2013. The global winner will receive a cash prize in the amount of Euro 6000, while the two runners-up will be awarded Euro 3000 each.
