Ludwigshafen, Germany -- BASF has announced that it plans to add 12 kT/year capacity for speciailty amines at its site here by 2015. The company said that it will strengthen capacity for its Lupragen-brand polyurethane catalysts and Baxxodur curing agents for polyurea applications.
BASF said it is building a flexible plant that will produce 15 amines for a range of different applications. "This facility enables us to react flexibly to changes in the demand for individual products, We will use it to produce commercial quantities of new products from our innovation pipeline, said Christoph Wegner, head of the regional business amines Europe.
Across its 200-product portfolio, BASF said that there is 5%/year growth in global amines demand.
