Ludwigshafen, Germany -BASF is to increase its price for PolyTHF (polytetrahydrofuran) worldwide by $150 per tonne or equivalents in local currencies. The rise takes effect immediately, or as contracts allow. This price rise for PolyTHF has been triggered by strong demand from all market segments and by continuously high raw materials and energy costs, said the company. PolyTHF is primarily used to make elastic spandex fibres in sportswear and swimsuits and is also an important intermediate for thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) for hoses, films and cable sheathing.Additional uses are in thermoplastic polyetheresters or polyetheramides and cast elastomers, which are used to make skateboard and inline skate wheels.
