Florham Park, New Jersey -- BASF is introducing two new rheology modifiers designed for skin care and hair care: Luvigel Star and Luvigel Advanced, the company said 11 May.
Luvigel Star is a polyurethane-based polymeric thickener for skin care products, which, according to BASF, lowers costs and production times because lower concentration of the product is needed to reach the required viscocity levels. The company said the product was developed specifically for enriched skin-care formulations with high active and/or salt concentrations "under a wide pH range," said Gary Dee, business director, Home and Personal Care.
Luvigel Advanced, also a polymeric thickener, has thickening, conditioning and advanced setting properties for hairstyling applications. BASF said because of the product's catatonic nature, no additional conditioning polymers are needed.
BASF introduced both products at the New York Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) Suppliers' Day, 12-13 May 2009, at the New Jersey Convention and Expo Center, Edison, New Jersey. (RD)
