Zanjiang, Guangdong – BASF has announced that the piling work has begun for the TPU plant at its new verbund site in Guangdong.
As well as making thermoplastic polyurethanes, the site will also make engineering thermoplastics for China and other markets in Asia. The company put engineering polymer capacity at 60kT/year but declined to comment on TPU capacity.
‘We are confident to bring the first batch of products to the market by the end of 2022 as planned,’ said Haryono Lim, SVP for the verbund site project.
The company signed its first memorandum of understanding for the site less than two years ago. ‘The project has been progressing steadily,’ Lim added. Ground was broken in November 2019.
BASF said it intends to implement a smart manufacturing concept at the site, based on cutting-edge technologies. The site is scheduled to be completed in 2030.
In 2019, BASF had sales of $8.1bn in Greater China, up 2% on 2018.
