By Liz White, UT StaffFlorham Park, New Jersey-BASF has raised prices for butanediol and its derivatives prices in North America from 1 Sept, or as contracts allow. BASF will increase list and off-list prices in the US, Canada and Mexico by $0.10 per pound for 1,4-butanediol, gamma-butyrolactone, N-methylpyrrolidone (both standard and value grades), tetrahydrofuran and polytetrahydrofuran. The group said these increases are necessary to counter increases in raw material and energy costs.BASF says it is "the leading global producer of butanediol and its derivatives," with seven plants on three continents, and annual global capacity for BDO of 575 kilotonnes. BDO and its derivatives are used for production of engineering plastics, polyurethanes, solvents, electronic chemicals and elastic fibres (Poly THF)."
