By Liz White, UT staffLudwigshafen, Germany-BASF AG is raising prices for the polyalcohols neopentyl glycol (NPG) and trimethylolpropane (TMPhydro) by 0.10 €/kg in Europe. The increases will take effect 15 Sept, or as contracts allow, BASF said. The German chemicals group said the increases "are necessary as a result of further dramatically increased energy and logistics as well as raw material costs, especially for propylene. " According to BASF's statement these polyalcohols are used as intermediates to make ecologically efficient solvent-free or high-solid coatings. Other uses are in polyurethanes, alkyd resins, plasticisers, artificial leather, cosmetics, or synthetic lubricants. "
