Chongqing, China – BASF has begun trial operations for mononitrobenzene at its 400kT/year integrated methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) complex in Chongqing, China.
The site’s capabilities also include a 300kT/year capacity of aniline and an MDI splitter with a capacity of 400kT/year.
Mononitrobenzene is a precursor for the production of MDI and the Chongqing plant is the first precursor plant of the integrated MDI complex. It is parrt of BASF’s RMB8bn (EUR860m) investment there.
According to a BASF press release, MDI production will support key industries in China’s western areas.
