Chongqing, China – BASF is shutting down its 400kT/year MDI facility in Chongqing due to unexpected issues with critical plant equipment of its syngas supplier, according to the company.
“Our Syngas supplier has informed us that they expect their Syngas supply to resume on March 27, 2017. We will restart our MDI plant as soon as Syngas has become available. The restart process will however, take a few days to reach on-spec production,” the company told UTECH-polyurethane.com.
China’s polymeric MDI price has doubled in 2016 reaching about CNY 21,000 ($3,053)/tonne at year end, and the momentum continued with its current price around CNY 26,000, according to local reports and information from chemical pricing websites.
Further price rise may be expected due to the supply cut.
