Shanghai, China — BASF said it will build a new 21 kT/year specialty amines plant at its Nanjing Chemical Industry Park to come on stream in 2019.

The firm said that it will produce 1,2-propylene diamine (1,2-PDA) which is used to make elastane fibres; n-octylamine for biocides; and, polyetheramine used in polyurea coatings.
Narayan Krishnamohan, SVP intermediates Asia Pacific, BASF said that the new capacity will 'help us to meet the increasing Asia Pacific demand.'
BASF produces the speciality amines at its sites in Ludwigshafen, Germany; Geismar, Louisiana; and, Nanjing, China.
