Accrington, UK Baxenden Chemicals Ltd, which specialises in polyurethanes, urethane intermediates and polyurethane dispersion technology, will be exhibiting its latest Trixene Aqua and Witcobond products for surface coatings at Stand 1-353 Hall 1 at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre, Germany, 19 - 21 March 2013.
The Chemtura unit will be highlighting its new Trixene Aqua range of crosslinkers and adhesion promoters for waterborne coating formulations. These products are blocked isocyanate dispersions, for use in 1-K and 2-K systems, with complementary aqueous resins, for example, hydroxyl-functional acrylics, polyesters and urethanes.
They augment the current portfolio of Trixene solvent-based blocked isocyanates for OEM oven-cure coatings (for example, automotive, coil, electrodeposition), textile coating & finishing and various heat-bonding applications. Trixene technology focuses on blocked isocyanates containing 3,5-dimethylpyrazole (DMP) as a lower energy crosslinking system that helps reduce curing temperatures and/or improve throughput.
Materials for field-applied coatings, membranes, sealants and adhesives, primarily used in building and construction, will be covered in a new Baxenden brochure for Trixene and Quasilan prepolymers, polyols and additives. They include aromatic and aliphatic prepolymers, flexibilisers for epoxies, moisture scavengers and bisoxazolidine curatives. Low monomer systems to meet current regulatory requirements on free isocyanate content will also be showcased.
Baxenden will also highlight its latest innovations in Witcobond polyurethane dispersions (PUDs). Noting that these materials are used in a multitude of waterborne coatings and finishes for hard and flexible substrates, Baxenden says the Witcobond range embraces anionic, cationic and nonionic chemistry, "so binders covering the full pH range are available to the formulator."
The list includes high-solids content (60 percent) products, dispersions with low or no cosolvent (including NMP-free) and grades without APEO/NPEO or other surfactants. Recent developments include cationic PUDs for stain-blocking primers and dye lock-down, and cosolvent-free, hydroxyl-functional products for use in 2-K protective coatings on diverse surfaces.
The European Coatings Congress running alongside the exhibition 18 -19 March, will feature Dr Jordana Todd, a Baxenden Research Associate, discussing, "Practical applications for heterocyclic ring-opening reactions in polyurethane technology" on the afternoon of 19 March.
