Leverkusen, Germany - Bayer MaterialScience AG and Sysprotex GmbH are to form a partnership offering customer support for the Multitec glass-fibre-reinforced polyurethane spray system, BMS announced 29 May.
The partnership will offer processors of glass fibre-reinforced plastics all-in-one solutions comprising the polyurethane spray system as well as specially coordinated production equipment and hence an optimised service, a BMS statement said.
Multitec is used for lightweight moulded and deep-drawn parts. This liquid system - with or without glass-fibre reinforcement - can be sprayed into open or closed moulds to create a diverse range of shapes and sizes, the company said.
BaySystems will work with customers to develop systems tailored to individual applications while Sysprotex will specialise in designing and installing turnkey production equipment for Multitec-based components.
"As well as designing and setting up production machinery, we provide staff with operational training and perform programming for the equipment and robots," Michael Driessen, who is in charge of the project at Sysprotex, said in the statement.
"Compared with conventional production using hand lay-up techniques, the system's short curing time of between three and five minutes gives a significant boost to productivity. Moreover, the system eliminates the need for styrene solvent and the energy-intensive post-curing process used in the past," said Dr Noelia Mansilla, marketing manager for BaySystems Diversified Industries, in the statement.
