Dubai - BaySystems Pearl, Bayer MaterialScience's polyurethane systems business in the Middle East, is to insulate 18 km of glass-fibre-reinforced polyester (GRP) pipes with rigid polyurethane foam as part of a construction project with Abu Dhabi Pipe Factory (ADPF) for the Dubai coastline.
The pipes will be insulated with a special grade of Baytherm polyurethane foam to ensure "continuous insulation throughout the length of the installed pipeline," Bayer said.
The new project will develop 15 km of natural coast as well as building 55 km of new coast into the sea. It is estimated the area will house around 1.5 million people, the company said 24 Nov. The pipe system will deliver electricity and water for cooling the buildings.
"We have developed Baytherm systems for district cooling applications, as this concept provides an effective and energy saving way of creating a comfortable atmosphere inside of residential and commercial building," said Marc Schuetze, head of business development BaySystems Pearl.
BaySystems Pearl is a joint venture between Bayer MaterialScience and Pearl Insulation llc.
