Leverkusen, Germany -- Bayer MaterialScience’s plans to close its 160kT/year TDI plant at Brunsbuttel have been put on hold.
Bayer said strong demand from the bedding and upholstery sectors – in particular automotive seating – requires that production continue.
As previously reported by UTECH-polyurethane.com, BMS had planned to close the plant parallel to the start-up of the new 300kT/year gas-phase TDI plant in Dormagen, Germany this year. The company was set to convert the Brunsbuttel site to MDI production.
However, positive market situation requires a change in thinking, said Joachim Wolff, of Bayer MaterialScience's executive committee member with responsibility for polyurethane business.
