Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Bayer MaterialScience llc and Composites One have reached an agreement in which Composites One will sell BMS's polyurethane resin systems directly to parts manufacturers in the US.
The agreement is effective immediately. It covers the distribution and sale of all fully formulated BMS PU systems developed for use in making composite parts, particularly those made through pultrusion, resin transfer moulding (RTM), vacuum-assisted RTM, resin infusion and filament winding processes. It does not include sales of PU raw materials, BMS said in a 20 June statement.
Composites One is a US distributor of composite materials serving customers in 32 locations across North America, offering products from over 500 suppliers.
"There are many opportunities in composites and the market is constantly looking for new materials that offer unique advantages," said Greg Shymske, vice president of marketing for Arlington Heights, Illinois-based Composites One.
He added, "Polyurethane products offer real performance and environmental benefits over some of the chemistries traditionally used in the manufacture of composites, and we want to offer those benefits to our customers. Selling Bayer MaterialScience polyurethane systems will enable us to do so."
Jerry MacCleary, BMS head of polyurethanes marketing in the NAFTA region, said that the agreement would help Bayer reach markets that it previously could not.
