New Martinsville, West Virginia-Bayer MaterialScience llc is to invest $8 million in a significant upgrade of its New Martinsville integrated polyol and systems facility. In the upgrade, Bayer will add computerised control for the entire formulated systems production process, from raw material receipt to final product shipment.
BMS said the project should "significantly improve the flexibility of the unit to align with the current and future needs of a dynamic marketplace." The upgrade is expected to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2007.
According to Peter Vanacker, head of the polyurethanes business unit at Bayer MaterialScience. "This project underscores our commitment to Bayer MaterialScience's integrated New Martinsville site and to the local production of polyethers."
As well as better flexibility, the project "significantly improve our efficiency" with more capacity for polyether formulations at the site-"which is scheduled to become a major location for specialties in the Nafta region," Vanacker added.
