Leverkusen, Germany -- Bayer MaterialScience's Desmopan thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) has been used by Dutch hand tools manufacturer Beargrip on its ClipPac bit holder.
The ClipPac, which is injection moulded using soft/hard technology in a two-component mould , is made of a hard polycarbonate+ABS blend, while the bit-holder itself is moulded from a soft Desmopan 487 TPU.
According to Steven Daelemans, a TPU expert at BMS, Desmopan's friction properties ensures that the bits are held securely in the holes without slipping.
"The holes do not increase in size even when the tool is in constant use," he said.
"This is due to the low compression set and good abrasion resistance, tear strength and tear propagation resistance of the TPU," added Daelemans. (ss)"
