Dammam, Saudi Arabia -- Building Component Solutions (BCOMS), a subsidiary of Saudi Group Zamil Industrial Investment Co., is to cooperate in technology with BaySystems Pearl, the regional polyurethane system house of Bayer MaterialScience in the Middle East, to produce polyurethane-based thermal insulation panels.
The aim of the project is to phase out ozone-depleting blowing agents from the manufacture of the PU foam used in panels in Saudi Arabia, in line with the Montreal protocols and recent UN recommendations.
BCOMS and BaySystems Pearl will "work intensively on developing and producing new systems that use environmentally friendly blowing agents to produce rigid polyurethane foam," said a statement from Zamil.
BaySystems Pearl claims its materials have the best thermal insulating properties of any product currently available on the market, and are used by BCOMS to produce insulation panels.
Thermal insulation based on rigid PU foam is a core element of the EcoCommercial Building (ECB) Programme run by Bayer MaterialScience of Germany, which operates one of the largest material development research centres in the world.
Much of its research is dedicated to providing green building envelope solutions for commercial buildings in the Middle East, said Zamil.
Bayer's ECB Programme offers decision makers in the construction industry access to leading experts that supply state-of-the-art solutions. These can be custom-tailored across the entire range of applications from analysis and planning to energy efficient materials and building technologies.
