Shawinigan, Canada-Canadian composites moulder Placeteco Inc. is to design and make the interior of the Bell Model 429 Global Ranger for Bell Helicopter Textron Canada Ltd (BHTCL). A five-year contract for the interiors, valued at $2.5 million, should employ some 50 workers, said a 1 March statement from BHTCL.
Placeteco specialises in components for aerospace and land transport vehicles, made by, for example, thermoforming, injection and contact laminating of plastics including urethanes, composites and acrylics. Located in Shawinigan, the company has 45 employees.
"Placeteco is a prime example of what BHTCL and the entire aerospace industry is in search of from its suppliers: a player who is able to deliver a final integrated product which will save us from having to manage several suppliers who are working on one and the same project," said Jacques St-Laurent, president, BHTCL in the statement.
St-Laurent added that the "scope of our international sales and tempo of our product development projects depend in part on this integration."
For Placeteco, "Obtaining this mandate to develop and manufacture composites for the interior of the Bell 429 aircraft will drive our design and development know-how even further," said Serge Francoeur, Placeteco's general manager, in BHCTL's announcement.
BHCTL, a Textron company, added that development of the Bell 429 helicopter is on schedule, with more than 200 orders and commitments already placed, and a first flight scheduled in the coming weeks."
