Nantong, Jiangsu – Taiwan’s DDK Group is to add a polyurethane elastane line at its bicycle saddle plant in Nantong, pending regulatory approval.
DDK will invest CNY6.5m ($960,000) into the line, with a capacity of up to 150kT/year or 3m unit/year. It will supply the saddle-making facilities at the plant. The Nantong facility, managed by subsidiary DDK Cycle (Nan Tong), had previously been buying elastane on the open market.
The plant will have capacity for 1.5m saddles/year. An additional 1.5m unit/year is planned, according to the project’s environmental impact report.
The site has a total area of 13,000m2, including 1,000m2 for the elastane line. It will create 15 new jobs.
DDK Group was founded in 1970, and set up the Nantong subsidiary in 2012. The group sells to Europe, the Americas and Southeast Asia, and is an OEM for Taiwanese bicycle heavyweight Merida.
It also manufactures other bicycle parts, including saddle pads.
