Zibo, Shandong – ChemChina affiliate Bluestar Dongda plans to build high performance polyether polyol facilities with 306kT/year capacity in its headquarters city of Zibo, Shandong. The project’s environmental impact review started in March.
According to the project’s environmental impact report, its planned capacity includes 91.5kT/year polyol for high resiliency foam, 61kT/year polyol for flexible foam and 60kT/year polymerised polyol. There will also be 51kT/year polyol for elastomers, 20kT/year specialty polyol, and 22.5kT/year crosslinkers.
Bluestar Dongda has upgraded its technology and processes, and is able to reduce its polyol products’ VOC concentration to 7μg/g, compared with Dow’s 417μg/g and Bayer’s 321μg/g, said the report.
The company will pump CNY 2bn ($298m) into the 231,000 m2 project, slated to come on stream after two years’ construction. It will create 500 new jobs and generate CNY 306m annual net profit on CNY 4.3bn sales, the report said.
Bluestar Dongda currently has 250kT/year polyol capacity, with a 270kT/year project also under way in Nanjing, Jiangsu.
