Leverkusen, Germany - Bayer MaterialScience is expanding capacity of its Desmodur N aliphatic coatings raw materials to 27 kilotonnes-per-annum at its site in Caojing, near Shanghai in China.
BMS has been producing Desmodur at the Caojing site since April 2003, which had an initial capacity of 11.5 ktpa. The recent expansion is to meet growing demand in Asia, particularly China, in the automotive, general industrial and plastics market, a 6 Nov BMS statement said.
Desmodur N is part of the Desmodur polyisocyanates range of raw materials for the formulation of a variety of polyurethane coatings, adhesives and sealants, BMS said, adding that Desmodur N is a solvent-free aliphatic polyisocyanate resin based on hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). (RD)
