Aberdeen, UK - Sub-sea inspection products developer Bowtech Products Ltd has opened new Subsea Moulding Facility in Aberdeen. Bowtech said that its investment in this professionally adapted 2500 sq.ft (232 sq.m) building on the Kirkhill Industrial Estate means it has the people and equipment to supply the right product on time.
Bowtech Products represents Seacon Europe's complete range of underwater electrical and optical connectors and said it was a natural progression to be able to offer the complete cable and connector assemblies in Aberdeen.
The maker of underwater cameras will produce moulds and tools for cables and connectors for its products at the new facility.
Manager Stuart Rowley has used his previous experience in both machining and in the rubber and plastics industry to set up the facility, the company said. One year after its conception, he has a team of 4 staff.
According to Bowtech, its Vertical Machining Centre for mould-tool manufacture "allows fast turnaround, from design to creation of the most complex moulds required in an ever demanding market."
Aberdeen-based Bowtech points out that it can mould polyurethane to almost any substrate or cable jacket material, allowing it to offer systems required for many varied shallow and deep-water applications.
Bowtech claims its injected polyurethane moulding system makes extremely high-quality moulds in comparison to open-cast moulding systems. Mould tools are designed in-house using 3D CAD systems to produce technical and assembly drawings to customer requirements.
As well as producing high quality mouldings in-house for all its own products, Bowtech said, it can also offer swift turnaround on external special orders requiring custom-made moulds.
In July, the company took delivery of a £100 000 (Euro 120 000) computer-controlled lathe to manufacture all its camera, lamp and strobe housings. Located alongside the Subsea Moulding Facility, this will allow Bowtech better control of production lead times giving an advantage in supplying cameras, lights and strobes.
