London-The UK polyurethane and rubber products organisation, the BRPPA, said REACH was a focus of its first AGM, with a presentation on the implications of this new EU chemicals regulation for the sector.
The 24 Jan meeting heard how important it was for all companies in both the rubber and polyurethane sectors to prepare thoroughly for REACH; in particular to "talk at an early stage to both their suppliers and customers to ensure that the risks of the chemicals they used were fully understood and that the potential risk to their availability was addressed."
The BRPPA concluded that "that this would be a subject of major focus for the association for many years to come," and that joining the association, would put companies in the best position for the challenges ahead.
This meeting of members and prospective members heard how the BRPPA had built on the base of services inherited from the British Rubber Manufacturers' Association, by establishing a "growing membership … in the polyurethane sector." BRPPA has also set up a number of new services for members.
BRPPA says membership of existing groups had increased and a new group has been set up. This forms a healthy base for growing the Association-"which would be a main focus in 2007," the organisation said. "
