The latest addition to Callaway’s portfolio of golf clubs is, the company says, the first of its wedge clubs to feature the urethane microspheres it has already introduced in irons. These are placed behind the striking area of the Callaway CB Wedge’s face to improve both the feel and sound of a shot.
The technology involves a ‘pocket’ of urethane infused with minuscule microspheres immediately behind the club face, touching its back. The microsphere-infused urethane flattens under pressure, and the resulting compression allows it to absorb undesirable vibrations at impact, without slowing down the speed of the club face.
The club was designed to offer forgiveness in the short game, with both good spin and feel. The cavity back design gives playability benefits in all types of wedge shot.
They will be available in July, priced at $159.99.
