Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania – Cannon inaugurated a new extension to its existing factory in Cranberry Township at the end of October with a visit from 60 of the company's young managers.
Cannon USA president Paolo Spinelli said the expansion was driven by a stable growth in the market. 'We increasingly see the advantages of manufacturing in the US,' he said. 'This is not just economic, for example, exchange rates, now that the dollar is strong.'
He added: 'Our customers strongly appreciate Cannon in the US, because if you have engineering and manufacturing capabilities here, then you can service your equipment better.'
The most recent expansion to the Cranberry site added two additional areas. The first at 15,470 sq ft (1437m2) is the same height as the original building.
There is an additional extension of 10,540 sq ft (979 m2) with greater height, and a new crane that moves perpendicularly across the width of the new building. Machinery with mezzanine floors can now be completed on the site. Once complete the machines are disassembled and shipped to the customer.
Total area at this site is 58,410 sq ft (5426m2) following the extension. The company said that the latest addition and office renovation cost $4m. This was funded by Cannon USA, which has sales of between $25-30m/year.
