California, US – Carbon has launched a new platform, EPU Pro. The company said this advance in 3D printing materials will enhance performance, usability, production and sustainability.
The company said the new family of materials improves production usability by introducing a dual-cure resin that comes in a single container. When used in tandem with the Carbon Design Engine, it said, customers can tune their products for performance, protection and comfort with multizonal lattices, generating mechanical responses that are more precise than traditional foams. With Carbon custom production software, the company claims users can deliver additive manufacturing’s vision of mass customisation at scale.
The materials include the energy-damping EPU 45, and energy-returning bio-based EPU 46. Foaming agents can be incorporated to give novel haptics, creating a suede-like touch. Greater design freedom for curvatures and delicate structures are also possible.
“The EPU Pro platform offers mechanical properties and novel haptics that are suitable for a wide variety of high-performance applications, custom colours and tuneable material stiffnesses,” said Jason Rolland, the company’s SVP of materials. “This allows us to continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible with our brand partners.”
The platform is making its debut at the Formnext additive manufacturing show, which is being held in Frankfurt until 22 November.
