Monmouth Junction, New Jersey — The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has confirmed Carandol as a certified biobased product. The material is a component distilled from cashew nutshell liquid, which can be used to make renewable polyols, said manufacturer Cardolite.
Timothy Stonis, president of Cardolite, said: "We are proud to have one of our product lines receive the USDA product label." The firm said its material is produced from an annually renewable and non-food chain material which is extracted from the soft honeycomb structure inside the cashew nutshell. The firm added that it has developed a process to yield very high purity grades with very light colour and "excellent stability over its shelf life."
