By Frank Antosiewicz, UT Akron Bureau Albion, Michigan-Caster Concepts Inc. recently invested $60, 000 to create a reaction injection moulding subsidiary, Reaction Industries llc."We see an opportunity to grow the business in a variety of ways, centered around the knowledge gained from polyurethane-coated wheels," said chief executive officer William Dobbins, in a May 24 statement. He said the subsidiary added four employees to set up the PU wheel-making operation, which began operating late last year. Reaction Industries occupies about 930 m2 of a 4645-m2 facility operated by Caster Concepts, Dobbins indicated.Caster Concepts' former RIM part supplier was about 500 miles from Albion, where Caster is headquartered. As business increased, shipping costs grew as well, Dobbins said.Caster Concepts makes wheels used in heavy manufacturing to move large items such as modular homes or airplane fuselages. The company also makes a proprietary wheel that can roll over and reject such debris as metal chips, shavings, and sheet-metal screws, he said. The company is ISO 9001:2000 certified.
