Albion, Michigan - A technical paper written by members of Anderson Development Co. and Reaction Industries llc - a division of Caster Concepts Inc - recently won the Best Paper Award in the 'Fundamentals of Elastomers' session at the Center for the Polyurethane Industry (CPI) 2009 conference, a 28 Oct Caster statement said.
The paper: 'Determining the Stoichiometry of MDI-Based Elastomer using Compression Set and Its Relation to Dynamic Performance,' details a method for ensuring that MDI (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate) polyurethanes are processed to achieve optimal performance, the statement said.
According to Caster, the research also discovered a process to direct and even accelerate the time it takes for an MDI-based urethane part to condition before it can be put into service. "Typically, parts made from these materials take 30 days to fully develop their material properties," the company said. Results from the paper showed that urethane could be fully cured and verified for high dynamic applications in as little as 14 days.
"It was privilege to work with the scientific staff at Anderson Development Company," said Denise Kenney, polymer engineer with Reaction Industries llc. "It is collaborations such as these that push our business forward. We are focused on innovation and partnering with ADC allows us to further develop our innovative process," Kenney added.
