Rochester Hills, Michigan – Research conducted on behalf of CertiPUR-US indicates that nine in 10 mattress buyers are more likely to purchase a product that contains certified flexible polyurethane foam.
Certified foam appeals to US consumers, survey finds
Of the participants in the independent SurveyGizmo consumer panel, more than 90% said they were willing to pay more for their mattress if it were CertiPUR-US certified. Almost half would pay at least $50 more, while 30% were prepared to pay a $75 premium.
Respondents had all bought a mattress in the previous 12 months, or were planning to do so in the coming year. Other notable findings were that an uncomfortable mattress was the second most cited reason for poor sleep, after temperature. Almost all – 99% – said the quality of their mattress was important for getting a good night’s sleep.
The survey also showed significant name recognition for CertiPUR-US. In all, 41% claimed they were aware of its certification programme, ahead of GreenGuard (26%), Green Bear (10%) and Oeko Tex (6%).
‘It’s clear that consumers feel that a quality mattress is key to a good night’s sleep, but this survey also shows they value certified foam—and are willing to pay more for it,’ said Michael Crowell, CertiPUR-US executive director.
